What we do
Cambridge United Methodist Church exists to bring the love and grace of God to our community and beyond.  We worship, pray, invite, serve, support, have fellowship, and love, all to the glory of God.  Through these activities, God’s love and grace touches the lives of individuals and their lives are changed for the better.
How We Do it
We bring the love and grace of God to our community and beyond in a wide variety of ways.  Here are just a few examples:
  • We work with the homeless through Habitat for Humanity and the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
  • We care for the hungry through our work with food shelves, Meals and on Wheels, Salvation Army Thanksgiving and Easter food boxes, and serving as a food distribution site for monthly delivery of commodities to senior citizens.
  • We minister to children and youth through a Wednesday after school and evening program called Cornerstone and through our Sunday School program.  We offer support to Young Life and the Somewhere Else drop-in center.
  • We give tangible support to missionaries in Eastern Europe and Mexico
Who We've Helped
Since Cambridge United Methodist Church began in 1955-56 over 1200 people have been members of this congregation.  This is just the tip of the iceberg of those we’ve helped.  For instance, we have ministered to the children and grandchildren of these members.  A few other examples include:
  • Over 150 homeless persons having been sheltered, fed and loved in our facility in the last four years,
  • The 455 children and adults we have baptized through the years,
  • The 225 recipients of the Thanksgiving meals we distributed, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, in 2006,
  • Third-world families, because of a Confirmation Class fund raiser for the Heifer Project and Wycliffe Bible translators in Mexico.  In this we also helped the youth of our church discover the value of helping others.
One Persons story
When we came to Cambridge United Methodist Church it would be fair to say our lives were unsettled.  We had just moved to Cambridge, and we were far away from family.  We were looking to get connected in the community, but we weren’t looking for a church.  We came to CUMC because of a meeting for an organization that was meeting in the church.  The people from the church who were at the meeting were so kind and helpful, we decided to give Sunday worship a try.  Frankly, my husband wasn’t interested, and never thought he might want to be a part of a church, but the people of the church won him over.  The people of the church became our family in Cambridge.
